Abstract

This article focuses on patients undergoing out-of-home treatment (PDT) in order to understand the flow of displacement and care in hemodialysis units during the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent repercussions on the clinical and psychological conditions of these patients in a Nephrology unit of the SUS network in Feira de Santana, Bahia. In this context, it also aims to enhance the role of the psychologist in Nephrology units, highlighting the contributions of Psychonephrology. Many emotions arise in chronic renal failure patients in a situation of PDT in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as: fear, anguish, insecurity, apathy. However, there are efforts by the interdisciplinary health team that seeks to find resolving coping mechanisms. It is concluded that renal replacement therapy is painful in situations of PDT, worsening even more when added to the impacts caused by the pandemic, even with the efforts of the health team to mitigate them.
