This article seeks to demonstrate the possibility of rational justification and foundation of ethics, as well as its meaning, according to the thought of the philosopher Henrique Cláudio de Lima Vaz. For this, an examination of the phenomenology of ethos will be held as an object of science Ethics; then will look at the question of the meaning of justification and rational basis of ethics in contemporary reality and finally the proposal of Lima Vaz will be presented from two converging paths (ie: the historical and theoretical) and culminating pointing to Philosophical Anthropology and Metaphysics as the basis of such justification and rational foundation, whose universality is the fact of being, ethics, grounded in philosophical reason, equally universal.
