O papel da liberdade na crítica à economia feudal em Smith

A contribuição de Smith para a discussão sobre economia de mercado e sua relação com moral e política é discutida no presente artigo. É argumentado que a abordagem econômica do autor é incorporada ao conceito de liberdade natural e que o livre-comércio representa sua resposta ao sistema feudal para prevenir corrupção e desigualdade. O texto concentra-se na reconstrução da defesa econômica do filósofo escocês em relação à economia de mercado, incluindo suas críticas às políticas regulatórias de salários, sistema de guildas e provisão de grãos. É tratado que essas políticas violam normas de justiça e liberdade individuais e impedem o crescimento econômico. A liberdade individual é defendida por Smith como um direito natural e configura uma forma de emancipação das relações de dominação na esfera econômica. Em suma, é oferecida pelo artigo uma perspectiva geral sobre como o autor emprega os conceitos de liberdade e bem-estar econômico para defender a reforma liberal contra as práticas mercantis feudais.
