Diário dos Campos: a fundação do jornal em meio aos ideais de modernidade ponta-grossense

Abstract

This article studies the foundation and performance of the newspaper Diário dos Campos in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, during a period of consolidation of the urban society of the city of Ponta Grossa. To this, raises, in the midst of its relations and meanings from journalism to the local society of the early twentieth century, the challenges and confrontations that the publication faced during the process of its foundation and consolidation. In this research, the publications of the newspaper O Progresso - called Diário dos Campos from 1913 - are used as sources and, using the theory of the representations of the historian Roger Chartier, it is sought to understand the newspaper in relation to the social environment in which was founded, besides the challenges of its establishment and maintenance, including the social recognition and the difficulties for the development of journalism in the society from that period.
