Abstract

Abstract:

This article aims to present the Egyptian-Hellenistic figure of Serapis, as well clarify the syncretic aspects and characteristics that resulted in the etiology of his cult. Observing the diverse cultural elements that circulated over Egypt, especially in the capital Alexandria, which brought together Greek and Egyptian influences in a common space, in line with the new forms of religious thought that materialized in Serapis. Still, we seek to reflect on the political, economic and cultural influences, which occurred through the figure of this god and the cultural hybridism resulting from his cult within Egyptian society in the Ptolemaic dynasty.
