The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of ovine brucellosis caused by Brucella ovis in herds in the state of Bahia. Blood serum samples were collected randomly from rural properties and from slaughterhouses with official health inspection in the state of Bahia, from animals originating in the state itself. Laboratory tests were carried out using the ELISA test, using a questionnaire to characterize the production system and observing variants such as: gender, age, participation in events and agglomerations, type of farming and breed. The samples were processed following a Standard Operating Procedure, and reactive animals were found in both farm and slaughterhouse samples. The prevalence found was 2.22% on farms and 1.76% in slaughterhouses. The occurrence of ovine brucellosis was demonstrated in seven of the state's twenty-seven territories of identity, in both males and females, where the health risks and strategies for the control and eradication of this disease in the state of Bahia were analyzed.
