Dear Contributors and Readers,
It is with great enthusiasm that we present the inaugural edition of the Journal of Infectious Diseases and One Health (JIDOH)—a scientific journal established with the commitment to serve as a vehicle for disseminating scientific knowledge both in Brazil and around the world. This journal was created to address an essential need: to integrate, through an interdisciplinary approach, the human, animal, and environmental aspects of infectious diseases, thereby promoting a unified vision of health.
JIDOH is dedicated to publishing original, high-quality research ranging from infectious disease studies and epidemiology to clinical case reports, critical reviews, and advances in the diagnosis, control, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases. Additionally, it will feature investigations into public health policies, normative analyses, and ethical and deontological discussions. We believe that global health challenges demand responses that combine open and collaborative science with a critical understanding of the regulatory and ethical frameworks guiding health practices—thus fostering sustainable and equitable solutions for human, animal, and environmental well-being.
Our mission is clear: to provide the scientific community and all those interested in the field with an inclusive, open-access forum to share findings that positively impact public health and inspire innovations beneficial not only to humankind but also to the ecosystems we share. We acknowledge that human, animal, and environmental health are intrinsically interconnected, and we therefore encourage studies that explore these interconnections.
Throughout this first volume, readers will find a carefully curated selection of articles reflecting the breadth and depth of the fields of infectious diseases and One Health. These include cutting-edge analyses, impactful case studies, and theoretical discussions that invite reflection and dialogue. Scientific integrity and editorial excellence are the cornerstones of our work. We adhere to the highest ethical standards in publishing, following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Furthermore, we embrace open science practices, ensuring that the knowledge generated here remains widely accessible and reusable, under the principles of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license.
